With ceremony and reception music provided by Joe Kalamaras of SJ's DJ the party lasted long into the night.

Beth Baugher of True Love Photography documented the day with her unique style of photography.

Not only did guests get to enjoy their choice of either peanut butter filled chocolate cake or strawberry filled white cake, a chocolate fountain complete with pound cake and fresh strawberries for dipping rounded out the evening. All provided with the convenient packaging of the Monte Verde Inn!

The guests got to leave with a little memento of the wonderful day. A beautiful candy bar decked out in the colors of the wedding. Just another addition available here at the Inn.

Tying The Knot!

Such a romantic day for Jessica & Phil at the Monte Verde Inn. Jessica started her day getting ready in the beautiful Champagne Suite which is complementary for brides to get ready in.

The Sierra Foothills couldn't have been more gorgeous that day for the happy couple.

Jessica's day was celebrated with Jessica Stout Photography which was super fun for the pair's wedding party.

The couple's decor was inspired by their love of sailing. The Monte Verde Inn provided all the decor flowers, after which the groom attached a different "Knot" that served as the table identifiers. The above photo was the "Tarbuck" table.

Amazing and breathtaking is all I can say. Kristen & Andy's wedding could not have been more beautiful.

Nestled in the foothills of Northern California, just outside of Auburn, the Historic Monte Verde Inn offers a complete package from wedding planning to beautiful decor flowers to a fully custom wedding cake created on-site by one of the Inn owners, Kelly Dalisa.

Kristen and Andy's 4 tiered, fondant draped cake had a vintage feel to it. Once cut, the guests got to choose from 2 flavors. Some preferred the chocolate peanut butter combination while others preferred the pink champagne.

The ever fabulous Joe Kalamaras from SJ's Disc Jockey kept the party going and the dance floor packed all night long.

Even though it has been a couple weeks since Rebecca and Q's wedding, May 21, 2011, we still have to reminisce about the lovely detail that Rebecca brought to her wedding. The cake was an amazing robin blue color with beautiful white gumpaste flowers. Possibly one of my favorites.

This magical mystery tour began at the Monte Verde Inn located just 9 miles from Auburn California on April 30th, 2011. Faye & Patrick said their vows and shared their special day with all the people they love!!

The well organized and super creative bride & groom, tastefully themed their wedding details to embrace the Beatles's Culture. It was so much fun working with the couple because their vision was fined tuned and they knew exactly what they wanted!!

Even thought the Monte Verde Inn provided white mums centerpieces as part of the Inn's packaging, our bride went all out and ordered additional decor flowers from Martha Andrews at Bloom's such as the pictured Kermit Mum Pomanders. The music was a well thought project considering that the Beatles were involved. Another Great Open House!

What a spectacular day Saturday February 5th! The sun was shining in the Sierra Foothills and not a cloud in the sky, you couldn't have asked for a better day for our 2011 couples.

The celebration or workshop if you will, is conducted every year here at the Monte Verde Inn. It's all about preparing our couples for the biggest day of their lives.

As the couples arrive at the Inn they were greeted with a smile and a special bag with all the necessary planning forms needed for their wedding day.

From there they hopped into the playful and fun photo booth provided by SJDJ's Photobash www.sjsdiscjockey.com .

Photobooths are both entertaining and provide an excellent idea as a favor for your guests.

Cocktails anyone? Our tasting began with cocktails of course. The Monte Verde Inn offers many different signature cocktails for our couples to choose from.

This one day allows our couples to taste items that they might want at their wedding. The day is extremely busy for Chef Douglas Dalisa as he prepares about 75% of the food we offer here at the Inn.

This year we introduced new items to our packaging. We were excited to unveil our Korean Beef, Oyster Mushroom and Rice Noodle Salad in Individual Containers and Seared Scallop Medallion on Rice Coin with Spicy Orange Dream Sauce and Chives. We are also proud to have introduced our new "Sommelier" Hosted Bar Package. The upscale items will truly impress any guest. Some of the new additions are Chimay "Blue" and a Provenance "Rutherford" Merlot.

After a quick tour through the Inn, the couples were encouraged to view all the vibrant and colorful table settings. Each table was decorated differently with linens and centerpieces.

We were so proud to have our favorite professional vendors come to the event. A special thanks to each of them.

The grand finale was the tasting of the cakes and eating of the candy bar. We were excited to present our new cake flavors. The favorite flavors were a toss-up between the Mocha Marble and the Lemon. The Monte Verde Inn is now offering a custom color coordinated candy bar for their clients. This arrangement of beautiful glass jars and delicious candy will surely compliment anyone's wedding

Usually people are ready for an appointment 4-2 months prior to their wedding date. We’ve created this check-off list for couples regarding your personal planning appointment.

Read our “Check-Off’ list below to see if you’re ready to successfully plan!

1. Have your planning packet and questions ready and available. You will receive the planning packet at the Open House if you book your wedding before the tasting. If after you will receive it at your booking appointment.

2. Have vendor information ready and available: Names, phone numbers and email addresses, arrival times, etc. Be sure to give your vendors the appropriate vendor requirements
information paperwork.

3. What time is your wedding going to start? We have provided a suggested start time
calendar in your planning packet, however you can check out http://www.weather.com/ and put in our zip code or city (95631 or Foresthill) in the search bar.

4. Be able to give an estimated count of how many guests you think may attend the wedding.

5. Will you be reserving the Inn overnight and if so, how many guests? Note: we ask that you assign rooms and make sleeping arrangements directly with your guests.

6. Review all forms in the planning packet as we will be filling out and signing these forms:
*Food and Beverage Packaging
*Cake Design
*Flower Arrangements,
*Ceremony Logistics
*Table Set Up

Remember that appointments can be scarce during high wedding season, but we can

Open House Invites!!

Having to design and print invitations can be so overwhelming! We are getting ready to create and send our open house invitations for our 2011 couples....and we wanted to do something special. In the past I have done the DIY thing which amounted to invitations destroyed, a good deal of time and printing frustrations. More importantly, I had to pick from box sets that might not have been the exact look I was going for. I have decided that I am good at coordinating weddings and decorating wedding cakes......but not so good at making invitations. ...... So this year I've collaborated with a professional designer. Her name is Angela, like an angel!

Prior to contacting Angela, I did my homework. I looked at some online designing options and did some price comparison. After many attempts of contacting these online printing companies, I realized that the price shown, was not the price I thought. When starting to go through the online check out, I recognized that the shown cost did not include the response cards, envelopes, direction cards and the colored ink! Moreover, I could not talk to a real person who was in charge of printing my invitations and have a second person proofing them. I couldn't wait for my meeting with Angela...I knew it would be better because I could actually talk to a real person! Imagine that!

After contacting Angela Dal Bon, a custom invitation designer, I felt better. She came to the Inn and we started by me explaining what we will do at the open house and what it is about. After listening to me patiently, and finding out what my budget was she said she knew exactly what I was looking for. Angela explained that the invitation is going to give our clients an idea of what the event was going to be like....it would set the tone. She also explained that it is important to couples to start working with a designer once you've pick your date and location of your event. When starting early, and finding the "look" you want to create this can influence things like your favors, programs, seating chart....endless possibilities!

Following our meeting I was so anxious to see what Angela could do for me. She presented me with three different designs to choose from. From the examples she presented I realized how much she was listening to me at our initial meeting. She created something so spectacular which was exactly what I wanted and didn't even know it. It was fabulous, she sent me the samples so I could touch them and feel them....just like trying on a good pair of shoes! What even made this process even easier was that I sent her an email with my contacts in a word document, then she addressed all those envelopes! No more printing headaches!

Charming details for a charismatic couple!

Mr. & Mrs. Heather & Michael Maves had so many elegant details planned for their big day! Some of which included these beautiful little rose garlands hung in the ballroom window (as seen on Etsy) and these incredible Silver Candelabras also provided by the couple.

As a gesture of their sweet love for their guests, they put together these shimmery little silver bags filled with different kinds of "sweets" as their favors. On the lip of each bag was a beautiful ivory placecard which indicated the guests name and their meal choice.

Each table was designated by a numeric picture frame of the couples life together!

At the planning meeting the floral decor (centerpieces and larger arrangements) were designed with the newlyweds and then created by the Monte Verde Inn on their big day!

Heather and Michael worked with the Monte Verde Inn to design this spectacular cake! A scrumptious red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and each tier was finished with a beautiful ivory lace & satin ribbon (provided by our blushing bride). The cake topper was an adorable pair of bride and groom love birds (also provided by the couple)!

This couple has a profound love for fishing and all things related, so the details of their big day really tied into their mutual love for the sport!

Each of their escort/placecards were color coded but also included a stamp indicating their meal identifiers. As you can sorta see below the solid brown backing on some of the cards indicated one meal option and the brown damask backing on other cards indicated the other meal option. This made it easy to decipher while still looking elegant and creative!

Our newlyweds brought in this rustic fisherman's basket (below) for guests to place their cards into, but carried the fisherman theme throughout with a feminine touch.

Each table was decorated with beautiful centerpiece floral decor designed with Ali & Damian by the Monte Verde Inn.

Mr. & Mrs. Forsythe brought in adorable table names, which included many fishing rivers and adventures they had been on during their courtship.

As with their centerpiece floral decor, the cake was also designed with our newlyweds by Kelly Dalisa of the Monte Verde Inn. Their cake was a delicious very cherry cake: white cake with cherry chips, soaked in Kirsch Liqueur and cherry filling, topped with buttercream frosting under a thin layer of fondant... YUM!

Jessica and Kelly selected the perfect cheerful colors for this grand chronological day. A bright yellow and cobalt blue tied their entire day together, absolutely loved the sunflowers! Each table was named after a state that had significance to them or their families.

They even got a bit creative with the traditional ring bearer pillow and had both of their rings tied with ribbon to a large Sunflower!

The newlyweds brought in colorful placecards, which were color coded by meal choice as well as stickers on card indicating meal choice. Each placecard was weighted down with pretty little irredescent stones to prevent them from falling over or away in a little breeze.

Such an adorable and yummy cake... so it was a tier of Spice Cake with Apricot, another tier of Pound Cake soaked with Hazelnut Liqueur and Bavarian Cream and frosted all over with Italian Buttercream.

The details of this couples wedding were so warm and reminiscent of Fall. Warm tones of chocolate brown, bright oranges, pinks and greens! It was a very beautiful setting for a wonderful bride and groom!

The bride and groom brought in their own table names, which simply completed the setting. Each name was created with a sweet thought in mind, as seen here at the Dark Chocolate Truffle table... YUM! Such a cute and delicious idea!

Mr. & Mrs. Garbutt decided on assigned tables but open seating. So as guests arrived they viewed their assigned table and took a moment to sign the two unframed mats that would later adorn pictures from this fabulous day!

Happy colors and decor for a very happy couple! Shannan and Eduardo are both very dynamic individuals with personalities to match. So it was no surprise that the details of their big day were amazing!

Having a very similar bird theme, our bride and groom for Sunday toned down their colors a bit and went with a more vintage/romantic look, which suited them well!

Mr. & Mrs. Emily & Jason Thienes brought in their own table names as well, which were very sweet!

Their bird theme details included a little tree used for favors and a small bird house that was used to collect cards on the gift table!

To carry over the theme for their big day, Emily & Jason brought in a cake topper of two birds snuggling!

Sweet Options...

One of the latest trends is the increasingly popular candy buffet. We see many candy buffets throughout the season and each one is unique! The options are plentiful and... sweet!

When considering a candy buffet buy enough candy!! It is suggested that candy buffets work best when they are planned through the eye and not the numbers. It is also suggested to choose 5 to 10 types of candy that you want to display and purchase 15-20 pounds of each of those candies. This may seem like an over abundance of candy, but a large table overflowing with candy has a presence at your wedding and does not look like something you threw together at the last minute.

Some are very color coordinated, while others are very taste oriented (sweet vs. sour vs. chocolate, etc.). For example if you are having a beach theme wedding, you can serve candies from the boardwalk: saltwater taffy, caramel apples, fudge, peanut brittle. We love to see the creativity that is achieved when our brides & grooms incorporate this sweet addition!

Once you've decided on what types of candy you want... you need to decide how to display it. Interesting containers will change your candy buffet from ordinary to extraordinary. Mr. & Mrs. Andrea & Brett Gavin had a butterfly theme for their big day and butterflies were incorporated into all the details!

To enhance the colors and finer points of their wedding day, the Monte Verde Inn brought in some specially ordered beautiful Platinum Lamour overlays. The complete set-up and the bride's vision was executed elegantly by the Monte Verde Staff. Although the Monte Verde Inn did not design the centerpieces for this wedding, the newlyweds seemed pleased with the look that was achieved by their florist.

Each table setting was adorned with one of two different favors for guests to take home. One was a cute butterfly cookie cutter and the other was a Sweet Pea tree seed! Both endearing and special to the bride and groom!

The ceremony site was adorned with colorful flowers lining the aisle. The arch was decorated with beautiful flowers and an elegant white fabric! Some strategically placed white and purple butterflies tied the overall look all together!

The Monte Verde Inn provided the larger arrangements for Andrea & Brett's big day, which also included some cute little butterflies!

So with their theme in nearly every detail, they incorporated a "butterfly release" of approximately 6 dozen Monarch butterflies. It turned out amazing! The butterflies were transported to the Inn by family and the Monte Verde Inn coordinated the release to happen at a designated time.

Andrea & Brett had requested the butterflies be released during their introduction into their reception, so as they stopped amidst their bridal party each member opened a cute little box releasing 8-9 Monarch butterflies. As you can see it truly was everything the couple had hoped for! All of their guests seemed very surprised and pleased as well!

The newlyweds worked with Kelly Dalisa not only with the coordination of their wedding, but also the design of the cake that incorporated all the colors and butterfly details they desired.

They even had a set of very exquisite Swarovski crystal butterflies as their cake topper!

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Suzanne & Dustin Romero!

The bride and groom hired O'Shays Flowers and Antiques, Auburn, CA to do their arch and isle decor as well as the bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres ,etc. Their floral decor included a beautiful array of bright and pale pink Roses, lovely Hydrangeas and decorative greenery!

Some beautiful larger arrangements (as shown above) and centerpiece floral decor (shown below) were created by the Monte Verde Inn and matched perfectly to the floral decor done by O'Shays.

To designate each table the newlyweds provided the cutest table numbers that were very garden inspired! When it came to table linens they requested a beautiful cream pintuck overlay which was a great touch to the decor and floral arrangements set at each table. The Monte Verde Inn was more then happy to facilitate their linen needs.

Tucked into each napkin was a cream colored card with the bride & grooms name and wedding date printed on them. Each card was adorned with a bright pink ribbon and a seed packet of Sweet Pea for each guest to take home.

Suzanne & Dustin had some really cute ideas for their wedding, including their escort cards which hung from little branches. It was a very creative & whimsical way for guests to find their assigned seats.

When it came to the newlyweds cake, they had a pretty good idea of what they wanted. They provided an image of the cake they liked with hopes that Kelly (Monte Verde Inn) could make it the perfect finishing touch for their wedding... she did and it was!

When it came to music, the bride and groom hired SJ's Disc Jockey and his amazing PhotoBash Booth! Joe rocked the celebration from guest arrival to heartfelt hugs of congratulatory good-byes!

The green accents that Mona & Anthony infused into their day was perfect! An important part of the detail came from their families, whom contributed by making some beautiful table runner accent pieces.

Timeless wedding photos of family members served as a great inspiration for guests to leave words of encouragement and love for the newlyweds.

Mona & Anthony put together a creative seating chart, using an old window pane. They listed guest names in alphabetical order with their corresponding table number for convenient viewing and reference.

Each table was set with a green apple dupioni napkin, which complimented the beautiful centerpieces and larger arrangements (both designed by Monte Verde Inn) and popped against the classic white and green accent linens!

Mona and Anthony did not want a traditional cake, instead they worked with Kelly Dalisa (Monte Verde Inn) to provide some delicious cupcake options for their guests. The bride and groom brought in an array of beautiful cake stands for the cupcakes to be to displayed on and were brought out at just the perfect time!

Chocolate cupcake: A scrumptious chocolate cake with a Coconut filling and super Fudge frosting (one of Kelly's specialties).

Lots of great color and details in this day, with chocolate lamour overlays and personally designed table names (such as San Francisco and Peru). Megan and Warren really put their heads together to involve all their guests into their big day! Each table was named a corresponding place the couple had been and incorporated an endearing tale of their adventure together that brought them to their wedding day.

Megan & Warren also included a small stone in every program and just outside the ceremony site was an engraved vase for each of their guests to place the stone in to, along with their sincerest wish for the couple. Each centerpiece was a beautiful arrangement of Calla Lillies and Curly Willow (designed in-house by the Monte Verde Inn), which seemed to finish the beautiful look of the chocolate overlays.

In addition, the couple hired a gal to bring in doves, to do a Dove Release. So here is how it works, as the newlyweds recess from the ceremony site (as seen) once they make it about half way down the aisle, the doves are released. Once released, the doves circle near the bride & groom briefly and then circle once more above the site and then fly home! It is so pretty and unique. It was a lovely touch to Megan & Warren's already elegant day!

As hors d'oeuvres began guests enjoyed Caribbean Crab & Shrimp Cakes with Mango Salsa; Buffalo Mozzarella, Seasonal Vine Ripe Tomatoes, Basil & Grissini Bread Sticks & Warm Foccacia Bread with Brie, Fig Compote, Caramelized Onions and Prosciutto. Absolutely delicious!

The bride and groom wanted to give something not only personal, but representative of their independent relationships with each of their bridal party members. So they had the most adorable bobble-head figures custom made for each person in their bridal party, each figure was custom designed to physically represent the individual it was made for!

For some additional fun, they incorporated the fun PhotoBash Booth by SJ's Disc Jockey. Guests always have a blast engaging with the photobooth, putting on funny looking glasses or hats or something else that makes a great picture...even better!

Mr. & Mrs. Megan and Warren Schechter worked with Kelly Dalisa of the Monte Verde Inn to create the perfect cake for their perfect day!

Occasionally when our brides and grooms request recommendations for their family and friends to stay the weekend, we refer them to Jami's House. It's great place in Loomis, CA with 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, this property is ideal for large groups! It has a swimming pool, enclosed spa that seats 8 and workout facilities are just some of the wonderful amenities. It is a nice private quiet place... it is truly magical!

We kicked off July with these two wonderful people, Mr. & Mrs. Sydney & Ben Cueva! Not only were they excited to officially be Mr. & Mrs. but their families were equally supportive and loving! It was so much fun helping them with their day and the details leading up to it!

Mr. & Mrs. Cueva envisioned a vintage, elegant, romantic style for their wedding and we think it turned out beautifully! Their colors were soft shades of blush, ivory and pale pinks; which lends to such a romantic look and feel!

Blooms by Martha provided bouquets, boutonnieres and arch decor! In addition, she provided the flower pedestals which were a unique touch to the details of Ben & Sydney's romantic day!

With the perfect setting for a summer wedding, all three of our couples this weekend enjoyed the best of the best weather! Monte Verde Inn is nestled in a small canyon overlooking the foothills to the South just outside of Auburn, CA. Just some of the enchanting features about our venue include the beautiful garden but also the ideal summer breeze that occasionally makes its way through the canyon. It is very reminiscent of the perfect summer day!

On Friday, we kicked off our weekend with a very fun and down to earth couple. Leila and Andrew put together details that were reflective of their whimsical and fun personalities. Each place setting had a beautiful menu card tucked into a white lamour napkin. In addition, Leila organized the cutest butterfly escort card display which provided each guest with their corresponding table assignment.

Their flower selection was very vibrant and lively, with bright purple and orange shades!

We would like to Congratulate Mr. & Mrs. Leila and Andrew Campbell! We wish you the best in your future and thank you for sharing your day with us!

Our next celebration was with Mr. & Mrs. Katelyn and John Nystrom whom joined us on Saturday to celebrate their union! They had some very unique and beautiful details in their day, like these wonderful wood slats which held their escort cards and each table was adorned with a similar slat for the table numbers.

Despite some random weather over the past several weeks, we got a little glimpse of spring this past weekend. Temperatures remained comfortably in the 70's with a slight breeze and plenty of sunshine. What made those conditions even more favorable were the wonderful weddings we celebrated!

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Katie & Ben Hoffman!

With creative idea's flowing many individuals participated in the projects leading up to these high school sweethearts big day. The cutest favors adorned each place setting, which were hand made by Katie's mom and a beautiful elaborate seating chart was created for guests to view.

The flowers selected by the couple were the perfect touch to the details of their day. Each table was set with the most beautiful centerpiece decor as well as a few large arrangements (strategically placed and designed by the Monte Verde Inn). The bride & groom selected a unique MVI vase for the centerpieces which complimented the flowers so well.

Another creative bride & groom touch included cute little potted flowers in silver buckets that lined the aisle. The arch was decorated by O'Shay's Floral and Antiques from Auburn, CA with the prettiest sunflowers (the brides favorite). It was spectacular!

Katie & Ben provided elegant programs and little fans, which the Monte Verde Inn layed out to welcome guests as they reached their seat for the ceremony!

A unique approach to wedding colors, Becky & Jon selected a beautiful peacock theme! With our venue being nestled in the foothills, it was a perfect location for their theme. They had shimmering turquoise, blues and purples... the details were not overdone. They selected a champagne colored overlay for each table and brilliant shimmering green napkins which only highlighted the colors in the peacock feathers that were placed at each place setting.

For their flowers, Becky & Jon selected an assortment of brightly colored flowers from O'Shays Flowers and Antiques in Auburn, Ca, that simply finished the overall look of their wedding!

When the bride and groom came in for their planning meeting, one of the many things they finalized was the design of their centerpiece floral decor. They wanted orchids for their centerpiece flowers and our in-house floral designers were happy to design something that would accent the already gorgeous set-up.

In addition to the centerpiece floral decor, Becky and Jon also worked with Kelly to design their custom wedding cake. The cake was simply stunning, a beautiful white swag cake with crystal broaches (which the bride hand selected) along with the perfect cake topper, signifying their union!

It was a wonderful evening with fun for everyone!

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Jonathan Vaughan!

It was a spectacular day, the weather was absolutely amazing! The sun was shining and their was a soft breeze melodiously whispering through the trees.

Our bride was in a state of tranquility when she arrived but was eager to start her day! We quickly unpacked a few things she had brought and got her settled in for a relaxing afternoon. With a 5pm start time, our bride had plenty of time to hang out with family and friends!

O'Shays Flowers & Antiques came up in the early afternoon to decorate the arbor. Ensuring all the floral details that our bride and groom had requested were well taken care of. The arbor looked amazing as did the bouquets and boutonnières.

The Monte Verde Inn floral designers did a great job of creating cohesive custom floral decor for each of the tables, as well as some stunning larger arrangements which were placed in the alcoves of the ball room and on the hors d'oeuvres table.

As the ceremony site was set and the weather was an ideal Spring setting. The bride and her bridesmaids were busy getting ready as the guys were doing the same. The photographer was buzzing around snapping an assortment of photos! And the chef was busy creating a heavenly cuisine fit for a king and queen! The venue was alive with action!

The reception area was all set-up and ready for a fun-filled memorable evening! To assist their guests in finding their assigned seats, the bride and groom created a foam board full of beautiful easy to read escort cards. In addition, they provided personal place cards for each guest, which were placed at each setting. The guests had no problems find their seats!

Our bride and groom had decided on small votives with floating red candles which tied the red in the floral decor all together.

As the winners of the SJDJ Photo Booth from our Open House, guests had a great time putting on funny little props and letting their inner child shine!

Once dinner was all done, it was time for the bride and groom to cut the cake! They were nice to each other despite the playful JAWS theme playing in the background. They worked with Kelly (MVI owner/cake maker extrodinaire) to design a breath taking ivory colored cake with elegant detailing embossed all around the cake and completed with a pearl border. The bride and groom provided a beautiful "V" monogram cake topper which sat perfectly between the fresh ivory roses! The cake was amazing!

The wedding for Alyssa and Jonathan was beautiful and elegant! A wonderful time was had by all!

It was all about enjoyment, about time with family and friends. It was about the moments spent with those closest to them on their special day!

Brooke & Brent arrived within a very short time of each other and were so excited to get their day underway! They took the opportunity to get ready in their complimentary changing suites.

The ballroom was set and ready to be filled with lots of happy guests. The bride & groom had decided on purple with silver accents, which turned out to be striking. They provided the cutest framed photos of their pets (past & present), which were used as table names. What a great way to incorporate the whole family, especially the furry kind.

As the ceremony was about to begin, Brooke stepped out of the Champagne suite like a modern day Audrey Hepburn. She looked so elegant! We gathered all the bridesmaids in the breezeway and waited for the exact moment to showcase our amazing bride. This was her moment, her moment to shine and start a whole new chapter in their life... the "I do" chapter!

After Brooke & Brent were officially Mr. & Mrs. Knapp, we whisked them to the front of the Inn to get some of those amazing photos. At the same time, guests were making their way inside the Inn to enjoy some fabulous hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. They had a very initimate party, which was very comfortable for all in attendance. Each guest searched for their name and corresponding table, grabbed their place card and a colorful votive to place at their seat.

The rest of the evening was simply splendid, with lots of laughter, love, great food, great company and without a doubt... great memories!

The cake was a beautiful white fondant with geometric embossed patterns on the sides. With fresh flowers on top to tie the entire theme together; it was not only beautiful but delicious. Brooke & Brent cut the cake and had some wondeful toasts in their honor! They rounded the evening out with some fun dancing for all!

As the wedding for Kristin & Marc inched closer, all eyes were on the weather channel... "What was the weather going to be like?.... Is there going to be sun or clouds?".... these are just a few of the questions bouncing around as discussions of the weekends wedding approached. We should have guessed that mother-nature would take care of all the details and without fail... she did. The weather was beautiful, just enough sun to warm those arriving and make for an even more exceptional day. Krissy had a vision in mind when she first stepped foot at the Monte Verde Inn and it was executed down to the "C"!

Our bride arrived so excited for her big day, it was contagious! Her bridesmaids were in tow all sharing the same glee and anticipation for the days event. They quickly got into action starting with hair and make-up. Periodically, we checked on them to see how they were doing and if they needed anything. But overall, they were very comfortable and were just having a wonderful time together!

A few hours later the groomsmen started arriving, each sharing their opinions about the set-up as they entered the Inn... "it looks amazing... wow, this is great... this is everything that Krissy & Marc wanted...", right down to the groom, who simply said "this is perfect!".

As the staff continued to get everything ready for the ceremony and the rest of the afternoon, the groomsmen were relaxing and the bridesmaids were having fun getting ready. The sun streamed into the ballroom, almost as if to see what was going on!

The bride and grooms vision of table set-up was elegant, romantic and simple! Using the most beautiful muted tones and perfect flowers. Monte Verde Inn's floral designers did a magnificent job of creating the perfect arrangements for our bride and groom! From the large arrangements to the ideal center piece decor! We were so excited to make her vision a reality!

The tables looked so sweet, with beautiful cream pintuck linens and mocha lamour napkins (which MVI facilitated for the couple). Each setting was embellished with an adorable little bird nest, which was filled with delicious candy eggs for their guests to enjoy! Each table had a wooden table number painted and antiqued to match the overall color scheme, just the perfect touch to finish off the tables.

Every detail was considered, right down to the thoughtful activity bags for each of the children in attendance.

It was very important to the bride and groom to have "thank you notes" placed at the seats of every guest during the ceremony, unfortunately, as wonderful as the weather was... the wind had kicked up a bit and made it near impossible to carry out the couples request. So we discussed some options with Krissy and came to a very happy resolution. We ended up lining the rows of the aisle with the thank you notes (as seen) and placed the rest in a basket as guests made their way into the ceremony site. Additionally, to ensure all guests got a thank you note, we placed one on each guest seat for all to enjoy at the reception!

The ceremony was simply beautiful! Krissy and Marc were surrounded by their families and friends as they exchanged the most endearing vows. There was not a dry eye in the crowd! Everyone in the bridal party looked fabulous, but no one took center stage more than the bride (rightfully so). Before the ladies made their way to the ceremony site, I overheard one of them say to the bride... "Grace Kelly had nothing on you..." and those words could not have been more true. Kristin Botz was a sight to behold and everyone couldn't help but take a second and third look... absolutely stunning; and not to leave the groom out, as he looked equally as handsome!

Once the ceremony concluded the bridal party was off to take photos and enjoy some hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. The guests mingled with one another while enjoying hors d'oeuvres and cocktails as well. As pictures neared completion, the guests were escorted into the Inn to find their seats and get their camera's ready (once again) for the bridal party announcements.

As with all the other details, the bride and groom provided these charming chalk board seating charts with hand written script directing each guest to their corresponding seat. It really was elegance in the details for this amazing wedding!

The wedding party and guests enjoyed a wonderful cuisine and created many more memories throughout the evening!

The cake was a beautiful ivory fondant with detail lace work on each side and gumpaste ivory peonies. The cake flavor was a delicious marbled cake with hazelnut buttercream filling, all made by the Monte Verde Inn. It was delectable in every way imaginable!

After toasts and cake, the celebration wrapped up with some entertaining dancing and fun! The night was the definition of family fun for this bride and groom!

Simple elegance and absolute romance! With a specific vision in mind, Margaret & Colby had their day planned out right down to the smallest detail and we were happy to make it all a reality for them!As their day drew near, we discussed a few different seating arrangements for their intimate party of sixty. They knew they wanted banquet tables as opposed to round tables and after some revisions we were able to set up a layout that was both romantic and efficient. One of the concerns we always have is making sure our staff can effectively serve our guests with ease and efficiency. This particular layout (as shown in the photo's below) was not only very comfortable for Margaret & Colby's intimate group but it was also very efficient for our staff.

Overall it was beautiful; with crystal garland strung in the window, classic taupe colored table runners, adorable ivory colored lanterns set intermittently on the tables, and elegant flower arrangements (done by our in-house floral designers). Then to tie in the romance, each place card was shaped like little birds and perched atop the corresponding champagne flute for each guest.

Long before their wedding day, Margaret & Colby came in and met with Kelly to design their simple and elegant wedding cake! It was a true reflection of the classic and modern styles that embrassed both Margaret & Colby.

Margaret & Colby brought in a whimsical "W" monogram, which adorned an entry door into the main hall as their guests arrived. Adjacent to their monogram was a striking black & white photo of the two of them in this beautiful antique style black frame. As guests mingled during hors d'ouvres and cocktails, there was an engaging picture slideshow playing in the dining room for all to see!

As dinner wrapped up and cake was exchanged, everyone was ready for dancing. So our staff quickly jumped into action and prepared the room for some fun. Where the bride and groom took the floor for their first dance as husband and wife!

As their guests departed they could pick up a little flag that read "Happy Honeymoon & Best Wishes", a small bottle of bubbles adorned with sparkly butterflies and a jar of of homemade jelly.

We'd like to wish Mr. & Mrs. Colby Wedgeworth a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and well wishes! Thank you for allowing us to take part in your amazing day!

Open House... RE-LIVED!

Remember back-to-school night? That one time a year where you could share with your family all the wonderful things you created. Well, the Monte Verde Inn does a very similar day/evening once a year for all our booked couples.

It's a time for us to share the delicious cuisine, yummy beverages, decadent cakes, amazing floral designs, as well as provide a helpful guide to keep our couples on track and organized. Each couple is able to explore different cuisine from each menu and discuss a multitude of service options available from each of our amazing preferred vendors.

Yesterday was simply wonderful, everyone was excited to find out what the Open House entailed. We always give each couple as they book information about our annual Open House, but we typically won't share all the details. Simply said, somethings are better experienced than spoken.

So with that, we had a fun time with each of our groups. As our couples found their seats, we kicked off the days event with a little game hosted by Joe Kalamaras of SJ's Disc Jockey. It's a fun way to break the ice and help everyone feeling a little more relaxed. The winners of our first and second group each won a wonderful gift from Joe for being such good sports. Now that everyone was ready for more, Kelly introduced each of our preferred vendors and a few of our staff members. Annette had a brief discussion about our Social Media efforts and Kelly held a little impromptu workshop, addressing some of the most common questions surrounding weddings (more specifically a wedding at MVI). Once that all wrapped up our couples were able to really dig into the cuisine and see what pleased their palate the best. Upon filling their tummies, each couple was served with a platter of cake choices to sample. Always a delectable moment in the event! By the end of the evening, each couple was not only very full but had so much more information to kick off their decision making process.

It was an amazing day and we would like to thank each of our couples for taking time to join us and help facilitate the items you like and need on your wedding day. We'd also like to thank each of our amazing preferred vendors for being with us and as always exuding such professionalism! Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Rudy!

Welcome to the new year and a new wedding season!

We are rejuvenated and ready for the amazing celebrations and unions we have scheduled for the 2010 season. In fact, we had our first wedding of the season on Saturday, January 9th. Margaret and Seth are both amazing people and we wish them the very best in the future! They were so excited, creative and well prepared. It was so much fun! Together they contribute to the academics at NYU and had some very traditional yet style appropriate quotes to toast!

Their family was wonderful and their guests were delightful. Before the ceremony started our couple took some time to discuss and sign the Ketubah. Once the ceremony started, specific family members were designated to participate in the holding of the Chuppah. Both Margaret and Seth shared some heartfelt and truly memorable characteristics about one another, symbolizing why they had chosen to start their life journey together as husband and wife! There were tissues a plenty. As the ceremony wrapped up and the kiddush took place, the groom sited the traditional "Mazal tof" and Rabi Petuchowski announced them.

As the reception celebration started, all the guests took notice of the wonderful efforts that Margaret and Seth went to ensuring their guests would remember their day. Some of the wonderful creations that they shared with their guest included:

Unique oragami flowers made from pages of miscellaneous books which were sprinkled throughout the tables in the reception area.

Practical favors and beautiful centerpiece designs (using books and the Monte Verde designed floral arrangements as their centerpieces)

They announced during the reception that the books also served as their favors, encouraging each guest to take one home as a momento of their day and a way to enlighten their spirit.

The book titles ranged from such titles as Moby Dick by Herman Melville to Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. Simply brilliant!

Bridal Expo 2010 @ Cal Expo | Sacramento, CA

What a wonderful, fun filled, crazy busy day! That is about the best way to describe all the hustle and bustle that was going on around Cal Expo on Sunday, January 10, 2010. There were so many amazing brides, grooms, family & friends who attended, it was sensational. We met with many of you and want to thank you for visiting with us, we can't wait to show you our elegant and private estate.

There was lots of interest surrounding our beautiful floral arrangement, which was created by one of our amazing staff members. Several pictures were snapped via camera's or cell phones accompanied by many ooooh's and aaaaah's. Although this arrangement is not representative of one of our table centerpieces due to the sheer size, it certainly is a better fit as a large arrangement.

Kelly Dalisa (Inn Owner and Cake Maker Extrodinaire) made one of her signature design cakes. She does amazing work no matter the cake you desire... so don't forget to bring in those inspiration photos. Kelly can help fulfil the cake of your wedding dreams!

Overall, the day was a nonstop frenzy, but simply fantastic! We had a lot of fun, met some amazing couples and got to spend time with some wonderful friends! Thanks to each of you who stopped to get information or simply to visit. We hope to see you soon at the Monte Verde Inn!

Season wrap-up...

We would like to extend a gracious thank you and heartfelt congratulations to all of our 2009 brides and grooms! You have made our year amazing in so many ways; filling our hearts with memories and moments we will never forget!

The year zipped by with a nimble quickness and before we knew it, another season has passed! As 2009 bows and bids us 'adeu', a new year is beginning... filled with hopes, dreams and of course... many excited couples anxiously waiting to exchange their vows! We can't wait for the new celebrations!

As we reflect on the year passed and prepare for the upcoming season, we would like to take a moment to thank our fabulous staff for everything they do to help facilitate each event as smoothly and flawless as possible! Thank you!

Now onto the new season... Our staff is in preparation mode for the upcoming Bridal Showcase in Sacramento. It is on January 10 at Cal Expo, with show hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is California's largest bridal show, so don't miss it! Persian Inspired

This Persian inspired wedding was a delight to plan. Scarlet being from a multicultural family, tried to keep some elements from each culture. In keeping with the Persian tradition she Incorporated the Persian wedding display spread which was set up on a table. On the table these items were displayed and the meaning of the items:

Mirror and two candle holders (representing the bride and groom and brightness in their future)
A tray of seven multi-colored herbs and spices to guard the couple; poppy seeds, wild rice, angelica, salt, nigella seeds, black tea, Frankincense
A specially baked and decorated flatbread with blessing written on it.
A basket of decorated eggs and a basket of decorated almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts in the shell to symbolize fertility.
A basket of pomegranates and/or apples for a joyous future.
A cup of rose water extracted from special Persian roses to perfume the air.
A bowl made out of crystallized sugar to sweeten life for the newly wed.
Wild rue incense (to keep the evil eye away and bring on plenty of health).
A bowl of gold coins representing wealth and prosperity.
A scarf or shawl made out of silk or any other fine fabric.
A cup of honey to sweeten life
Immediately after the couple is married they each should dip one pinky finger in the cup of honey and feed it to the other one.
A needle and seven strands of colored thread to figuratively sew up the mother-in-law's lips from speaking unpleasant words to the bride!
A copy of the couple's Holy Book and prayer kit
An assortment of specialty Persian store bought sweets

Jessica from Stout Photography http://www.stoutphoto.com/ sent us over these incredible photos that show off Scarlet's beautiful wedding. I made a square stacked cake with gumpaste orange mini-cala lilies that tied here orange table cloths together.

The brides brought in her own vases & candles and we did the rest. Our floral designer created a simple but elegant arrangement with mini white calas, bear grass and small natural rocks.

Love Birds!

We had the pleasure on June 14th of hosting an amazing wedding. Kathy Dusart from Colfax (530) 637-4141 http://www.dovesofwhite.com/ was hired to release 20 beautiful white doves from the garden area when the couple recessed after ceremony. The experience was simply amazing! The doves were released from a basket and flocked behind the couple. The flock then flowed into the air and circled twice then disappeared.
According to Kathy's website:
White Dove Releases are an ancient tradition symbolizing Love & Devotion, Peace & Unity. These Birds mate for life and when released Divine their way homeward and to their nest. Anthropology!

What an exciting wedding on Saturday May 30th. This Monte Verde Inn Bride really showed off her style, Anthropology. The Bride’s choices of colors & styles truly shined in the garden on Saturday. The details of this event were well thought out down to the 1940’s style wedding cake topper. The bridesmaids dresses were even purchaced from a girl's favorite store, Anthropology. Tralee’s inspiration and love for the antique look came together for her wedding.

Her table settings were accented by Victorian Lilac Organza table cloths and Lilac Lamour napkins. The cute “birds in nest” favor was a unique touch that showed off the flowers and the rented table cloths. Attached to the Monte Verde Inn designed centerpiece was a small branch widdled to hold a table number. The centerpiece was a garden design in our “pottery urn”. It was so unique; the bride gave us the numbers and branches to use in other events!

Tralee also brought with her escort cards that were displayed attractively on top of flats of landscape cover that brought the whole garden theme together.

May 16 - Wedding

As promised I will feature weddings throughout the season highlighting the event. On Saturday May 16, we had a spectacular couple and a fun wedding. There was about 100 people for a delicious buffet dinner. The guests enjoyed the broiled PEI muscles with garlic, breadcrumbs and Italian parsley as one of their appetizers. Guests raved about the slow roasted & smoked prime rib that was carved by the chef along with other various terrific buffet items.

The couple's colors was centered on their flower choices, pink aqua roses along with green spider mums. These colors were certainly showed off as the topper of their mocha fondant wedding cake as well as their favors.

The guests were impressed by the couple's choice of hiring the "Special Event" nannies to play games with the children. This allowed the adults to have a good time while their children were looked after.

The guests had fun playing in the "photobooth" provided by SJDJ's services. The guests were able to put on fun hats and wigs and took photos in the booth. The photobooth created a four picture favor for them to take home, and a duplicate to put in the guestbook.

Picture Perfect

Here at the Monte Verde Inn, the places for pictures are endless. Our beautiful grounds, structural textures and filtered light, are all a photographer’s dream. After your wedding is over, your wedding photos will still be there reminding you of your beautiful day. That said it is imperative that you and your photographer go over details before the event.

Being Ready:
It is imperative that you be ready for your photographer. It will cost you money and reception time if you are not ready. Putting the photographer behind schedule will not allow for all the photo opportunities you wanted. More importantly, you will be stressed and hurried, which will make for poor photographs. You should make an itinerary for people that need to be here for pictures before the ceremony. You should let them know what time they need to be here and when they need to be ready. You can give these people their times during the rehearsal lunch/dinner. Also do your best to remind the wedding party of their duties; work with your photographer by listening, being ready and doing their best to be happy.

Timelines:
Ahead of time you really need to sit down with your photographer and make a “laundry” list of all the pictures you want of individual and family groups before ceremony and after. Be sure to write down the names of the picture participants because looking for the “bride’s family” usually doesn’t work. Often times I’ll have an announcement made for “bride’s family” and all the second and third cousins come out of the woodwork. We usually find that taking the bride & groom, wedding party and family out front of the Inn coordinates best. It allows you not to get sidetrack by the other guests, and can get the formal photographs behind you so you can move on to your party. Not to worry, we do assign a staff member to get you and your family something to drink and some of the appetizers. In addition, go over with your photographer the top 3 places on the grounds that you really want pictures of.

Coordinating with your photographer:
As with all your vendors, I do coordinate with them regarding the timeline of the event. Remember that we give about 45 minutes to an hour after ceremony for most of the formal photographs. It is a great opportunity for the majority of photographs to be taken. I’ve noticed things flow more smoothly when family pictures first, then wedding party, and last romantics (just bride & groom). During your photography session I check in with your photographer to see if you are on schedule or need help finding people for pictures. When it is time for dinner, try to enjoy your wonderful wedding dinner. It is tempting to go off for more pictures, but if we plan and are ready for photo sessions, getting up from dinner won’t be necessary.

Last but not least, it is important to build a rapport with your photographer. You should be comfortable and at ease with them. Your photos will be fabulous if you do. In addition, it is important to drink lots of water and remember that you have professionals working for you. Let go and have fun with your photographer it will certainly show in your photos!

Music To My Ears

Music is an important part of any wedding. As a wedding coordinator, it is also important to help facilitate and coordinate with your music provider. Regardless of the type of music provider i.e., DJ or band, coordinating with your vendors is an important part of the success of your wedding.

After working hundreds of weddings with the professional services of SJ's, I have found that they come prepared knowing the details of each event. These details include:

Start times of the event (they should arrive and are set up with music playing before your guests arrive)
Wedding Ceremony Music i.e., song for honored women, song for bridesmaids, song for bride and the recessional song
Ceremony Instructions of readers, vocalists and/or any unique traditions
Wedding Party & Newlywed Introductions
Type of dinner service (making the appropriate announcements of offer your guest dinner instructions
Champagne Toast (who will speak and is there an open mic)
Cake Cutting/Bouquet/Garter Tosses Songs
Spotlight Dances (1st dance, father & daughter, mother & son, honeymoon dance)
Special Announcements
Open Dancing (songs to play and songs NOT to play)
Make sure to go over all these aspects with your music provider

There are many great DJ's, however we have seen our share of bad ones.....these are just a few stories:

DJ not playing the correct songs for ceremony
DJ driving up at the ceremony start time with his equipment in the back of his truck. We had to wait 30 minutes for the wedding to start so he could set-up. When I asked him why he was late he said that the bride didn't pay for extra set-up time
Mispronouncing names of brides, grooms and parents
Equipment failure
Makes inappropriate comments
DJ decided to give his own toast to the bride (not cool)

Your music provider should go over all of the listed items above in order to be well prepared for your wedding. It is important to let them know you do have a wedding coordinator for the event and will be present to coordinate with them about the sequence of events. We do have a certain sequence of events that works really well for our facility and encourage the music provider to contact us to go over the plan. This should be noted when coordinating with your music professional.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

Just a small post to update everybody who has not had the opportunity to visit in the last month or two. Spring is here and mother nature has been working her magic on the trees and gardens.

The Plum trees that line the driveway are now full of leaves as are most of the fruit trees around the parking lot.

The gardens are getting full with Day Lillies, Roses and Jasmine.

The lawns are looking lush and green.

The vineyard is all prepped and ready for another growing season. With the vines waking up from their winter hibernation and showing their first green shoots this week.

In addition to Mother Nature we have been hard at work as well.

Constructing a new solid redwood arbor and fence to replace the old one in the bottom patio area.

And not as glamorous as the arbor but just as important we are just about done remodeling the three outdoor bathrooms.

Brand new plumbing fixtures, ceramic tile, lighting, paint and decor, have made a vast improvement to our outdoor facilities.

Seating Arranging 101

Now that you have decided on assigned seating at your wedding, here is some helpful information to guide you through the process. Below are things to know about seating arrangements at the Monte Verde Inn:

Our round tables seat 8-10 people. If you want to use our silver chargers (a decor plate that goes at each place setting), you can only put 8-9 people per table. If your guest count is over 160, you will need to seat 10 per table due space restrictions in the garden.
Numbering tables is the easiest way to label your tables. The Monte Verde Inn already has pre-made framed table numbers for you to use (see picture of example above). If you do not like our framed numbers, you may provide your own. I have seen people name the tables in all different ways, places the couple has visited, wine varieties, classical composers, Disney characters, different trees…….If you do provide you own table identifiers, make sure that they don’t over power your centerpiece and the holder in which you use is wind proof. I have seen people use floral picks and have put the table names in the centerpiece……beware of flimsy paper and/or colors & styles that conflict with arrangement.
Guests will need to know which table they are seated at so they don’t have to walk around every table to find their place. This is usually achieved by displaying a seating chart or escort cards (Escort card show the name/number of the table a guest is seated at) prominently at the entrance to the garden.
Seating Charts can be anything like a typed sheet of paper in a frame listing tables with each person’s name below a table or you can have Kinko’s http://www.kinkos.com/ make your seating chart into a creative poster board where we can display it on an easel.
Escort cards can be cute and fun, but beware if you have more than 100 people as the cards become too many to display. In addition, escort cards can get lost by a guest, so if you also need this to be a meal identifier, think about having those place cards at each place setting. If you decide on escort cards, think about a way to display them to keep them in place. Often times if cards are not secured on a board or weighted down somehow, the wind can carry them all over the garden.

Buffet Dinner: SEATING CHART

When having a buffet dinner meal identifiers and place cards are not necessary. A seating chart nicely displayed at the guest book table is sufficient.

Plated Dinner: SEATING CART + MEAL IDENTIFIERS/PLACE CARDS

As your rsvp’s come rolling in keep track of them the old fashion way. You can easily keep track of people and what they’ve ordered to eat by simply using two different color post-it notes i.e., blue=beef & yellow=fish with one name on each post-it note. Then take a piece of paper for each table, and start moving your people (post-it’s) around. When you final count is due, you can easily count blue (beef) and yellow (fish) meals. When you are ready to create your chart, just type it out according to your pieces of paper. NO MORE EXEL SHEETS!
You will need a meal identifier for each guest. Once you’ve figured out who is coming and what they’re eating you need to have something in front of your guest letting our staff know which entrée they have chosen. You can simply do this by making place cards with a color ribbon, stamp, or different color ink, to indicate beef or fish. Remember that meal identifiers can do double duty with your favor. Example: a truffle box tied with different ribbon (stripes for beef & polka dots for fish) with your guest’s name attached.
When bringing your meal identifiers to us, please divide them by tables clearly labeled, along with a labeled garden map (in your planning packet).

Where Should I Sit?

Lots of brides wonder if they should have a seating arrangement for their reception. My answer is defiantly yes! According to a survey taken by You Gov in February 2006, 84% of people preferred to be told where to sit. The pros are endless when there is a seating arrangement.
Unassigned seating sounds great in theory and it is certainly one less chore for the bride and groom. Unfortunately it never works out so well in practice.

I can guarantee that one or more of the circumstances below will happen:
1. There may be an unseemly rush for the ‘good’ seats.
2. It will take a lot longer to get guests seated. They may still be milling around while the food is being served.
3. Your beautiful decor will be spoilt by people leaving their coats on chairs to reserve them.
4. The last few guests end up walking around looking for seats, a bit like the unpopular kid at school lunch.
5. Couples can get split up.
6. Elderly relatives may end up seated where they can’t see or hear anything.
7. If people turn up uninvited (common in some cultures) they may take seats intended for your invited guests.
8. They will think you or the facility didn't plan well.

Guests can be assigned to a table (where they can choose any seat) or assigned to a specific seat. You might want to put people next to people they know, or you might want to split them up a bit so they meet new people. But try to put each person next to at least one person they already know. People are more likely to get on well if they are similar ages or have similar interests. It might not be a good idea to put some of your stranger friends next to your 80-year-old grandmother. A little common sense goes a long way.

Generally you should try to put families together and work colleagues together. But if you know people don't get on, try seating them separately. It is worth breaking with tradition to have a stress free event. Avoid mixing age groups too much. Young children should be seated with their parents. Older children can be seated with their parents, or on a table together.
Try to avoid putting guests on the same table as ex-partners, unless you are sure this is OK. Resist the temptation to have a ‘leftovers’ table of all the people who didn’t fit on other tables. It is probably better to distribute such guests evenly.

FAVORS OR NOT? THAT IS THE QUESTION!

To give favors or not that is the question? You are not required to give your guests gifts, however if done correctly they can be a special thank you. According to many articles I’ve researched it is possible that the little gifts have been given out for centuries. The French used to call the small and fancy boxes they handed out at weddings bonboniere. The bonboniere was made from gold, porcelain or crystal and for those wealthy enough; they were encrusted with precious gems and stones. Bonbonieres were made to hold bonbons or other sweet treats and were considered delicacies because of the high price of sugar. One of the things the gift of wedding favors do have in common with most cultures, is the tradition of giving five candies to represent the 5 wishes for all happy couples. These wishes are longevity, fertility, happiness wealth and health.

This does not mean you have to give sweets as the favor. Many brides and grooms are giving other gifts that reflect their personality or match the colors/theme of the wedding. I found that some donate to a cause and give out the donation cards instead. I have found really updated and unique favor ideas on www.myweddingfavors.com / www.theknot.com / www.beau-coup.com .

What ever your choice is to give favors or not, be sure to keep in mind:
· Budget (items get costly). If giving something expensive try giving them out to each couple.
· When having an outdoor summer wedding chocolate is not a good idea.
· Package your favor so your guests can easily take it home.
· You can personalize little boxes with monogram stickers and wedding color ribbons.
· How will you display your favor, at each place setting? Separate table? What ever the case is make sure that your guest realize it is a favor that they can take.

The Out-Of-Towners!

Believe it or not, Auburn can be a busy town especially during the summer months. That said it is important to make plans and reservations for your out of town guests, sooner rather than later. I’ve compiled information regarding two of the hotels that the Monte Verde Inn recommends. By reserving a block of rooms you will get a guaranteed price on the rooms and the hotel will try and keep your guests located in one area of the hotel. Both hotels will allow 25 rooms blocked at a time. Your guests will call them for a reservation and give your name for the discounted rate and a credit card number to hold the room. For rooms that don’t get booked 30 days prior to your event, the rooms are put back into general reservation, and are subject to a price increase.

My first recommendation is the Holiday Inn, located right off I80 at the 49/Grass Valley Hwy exit. This is hotel will offer the most amenities and is the nicest out all the Auburn hotels. The hotel just got a facelift with new beds, linens, curtains and plasma TVs. They offer room service, pool, gym, restaurant and a on-site lounge. May 15 – Oct 15 is their high season and block rates are from $129.00 to $133.00 per night for a King room/$133.00 to $138.00 per night for two double beds. During the other months, it’s about $10.00 less. This hotel has a honeymoon suite called the “Executive Suite” that has an executive king, separate sitting area, double walk-in shower and separate Jacuzzi tub. They tell me if you booked out all 25 rooms, the hotel will give the Bride & Groom a complimentary “honeymoon suite”! The hotel is walking distance to old & downtown Auburn. The hotel has a lounge that is open until 10:00 pm however; they will stay open longer if guests are there. For reservations you need to cal Karen with Group Sales and tell them you are getting married at the Monte Verde Inn.

Another good option is the Best Western Golden Key, located off the same exit on your way to the Monte Verde Inn. It is towards the left of Raley’s on Lincoln Ave. This hotel is a bit less expensive, but has a pool, hot tub, picnic area and free continental breakfast. It is located next to a couple of restaurants and is all around clean and comfortable hotel. High season for Best Western is June – September and block rates are from $95.00 - $125.00 per night depending on the room type as well as the time of year. Lastly, I recommend dropping off a day before your guests check in a small greeting basket or bag. You could include things like bottled waters, fruit, energy bars, chocolate and/or wine. This little gift is a nice gesture and welcome. Be sure to include an itinerary for their stay especially if they have to be at a rehearsal, lunch or other pre-wedding events. Also, you may suggest things to do in the area your local hotel can help guide you with addresses of golf, wineries, shopping and restaurants in the area.

10 Steps For A Successful Planning Session!

There has been a lot of questions about planning appointment when, what and how this happens. I’ve created a check off list for brides & grooms about their personal planning appointments. Remember that appointments can be scarce during high wedding season, but we can accommodate during weekdays & weekday evenings. Please call the Inn to schedule an appointment. If you can not attend a meeting in person, we can also plan over the phone.

Usually people are ready for an appointment 6-2 months prior to their wedding date. Read below our “Check-Off’ list to see if you’re ready to successfully plan!

1. Have your planning packet & questions.
2. Have vendor information ready: Names, phone numbers and email addresses, arrival times, etc. Make sure to give your vendors the appropriate vendor requirements information (see back of planning packet).
3. What time is your wedding going to start? We have provided a suggested start time calendar in your planning packet, however you can check out http://www.weather.com/ and put in our zip code or city (95631 or Foresthill) in the search bar.
4. Be able to give an estimated count of how many guests you think are going to attend the wedding
5. If you will be reserving the Inn overnight and if so how many guests?
6. Review all forms in the planning packet as we will be filling out and signing these forms: Food and Beverage (if thinking about a plated dinner, we will go over the appropriate starch and vegetable that may or may not be in the Menu), Cake Design, Flower Arrangements, Rehearsal/Ceremony Logistics and Set Up sheet
7. Bring any and all inspiration pictures of your wedding such as bridesmaid’s dresses, cake, flowers and colors ideas. You can find some great inspirational photos by linking to http://www.theknot.com/ .

Eat, Drink and Get Married!

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day on Saturday. The warm weather brought all of our 2009 clients to the Inn for a day of fun and food. The annual Open House brought excited new brides and grooms as well as a few parents and friends to start the planning process of their upcoming weddings at the Monte Verde Inn. The day’s events began for our clients with a picture in SJDJ’s new Photo Booth. This new and upcoming trend was well received by all. After all of our guest found their way into the ballroom, “Joe” the DJ started us out with a hilarious game of the “Soon-To-Be” Newlywed game. The winner received a free Photo Booth for their wedding from SJDJ. The runners up received a Monte Verde gift basket with fun goodies for our soon to be wedded couples.

Soon after, the sun porch was filled with delicious samplings from both our Cinderella and Princess menus. The samplings included several appetizers, salads, entrees and accompaniments. The tasting would not be complete until the chocolate fountain flowed and cake was served. The platter of cake presented had 7 different flavors, filling and coverings. We also had a chance to present our wines, sparkling wines and signature drinks.

I just want to say to our 2009 clients’ thank you for a successful Open House and I look forward to planning and performing your special day. Moreover, thank you to our preferred vendors for attending and giving our client an opportunity to have a stress free “one-stop” shopping day.

This is the inaugural post of the "Monte Verde Inn Weddings" Blog. We have created this site in order to present a forum where we can share information, new trends and interesting happenings with our Brides, Grooms, MOBs, MOGs, (just to name a few) as well as anybody else who is looking for and wanting to share wedding related information.
As we enter the 2009 season, it is our intention to post at least once a week and with the permission of the Bride & Groom, have pictures and information of recent weddings that were held here.
